Twenty-three-year-old Samim, a devoted follower of Taliban ideology that has determined his fate since birth, balances between the seductive promises of martyrdom and the everyday reality of his life as a husband and farmer. His 14-year-old younger brother Rafi looks up to him with admiration, while he himself is going through the confusion of puberty and leaving his youthful playfulness behind to enter a world that has been shaped for decades by military interventions and the resulting radicalisation.
