Vrede en Recht Festival in de Bunker Theater: Animal Farm

  • Date: 21 September
  • Time: 10:30 - 10:50
  • Location: Seyss-Inquart bunker Landgoed Clingendael

Animal Farm is one of Noorman’s favorite books, not least because of the satirical, almost childlike character of both the tone and the characters. It is this lighthearted simplicity that draws you in to follow the vile, dark analysis. As a songwriter, Flip sees the characters as the starting point for a colorful collection of songs, each one freely translated into the here and now. What does Boxer’s “Work Harder” mean in today’s context? Who are the Sheep that constantly drown out every nuance with “four legs good, two legs bad”? What is the role of Raven Moses, who promises a land of sweets and sugar after death?

The songs are interspersed with monologues by Noorman, in which he subtly transforms over the course of the show from a righteous revolutionary to a ruler who only thinks of his own position. Because, yes: “some animals are more equal than others.”

Flip Noorman offers a preview of what will soon be seen in its entirety at The Hague’s Diligentia Theatre.
