Nickel Boys, directed and co-written by RaMell Ross, tells the gripping story of the friendship between two young African-American men who endure the horrors of a reform school in Florida together.
The film follows Elwood Curtis, a brilliant teenager inspired by Martin Luther King, who dreams of a better future. Due to a judicial error, he ends up in the hell of Nickel Academy, a school where violence, racism, and abuse of power are part of daily life. There he meets Turner, a fellow inmate who, unlike Elwood, no longer believes in justice. Their friendship and contrasting beliefs become crucial to their survival in this merciless environment.
Nickel Boys is based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and was nominated this year for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture.
