Gnawa Festival

  • Date:
  • Location: Het Nationale Theater

Every year, the Moroccan coastal city of Essaouira hosts the Gnawa Festival, which in recent years has branched out across the world. Since 2019, there has also been a Gnawa Festival in The Hague city center, featuring a wide variety of music styles, theatre, dance, and workshops. The Gnawa Festival The Hague is an initiative of Stichting Multicultureel Jongerengeluid, in collaboration with PAARD, Korzo Theater, Theater De Regentes, Amare, Het Nationale Theater, and ProJazz. Supported by Gnaoua Culture, Juliana Plaza, DPS Media, the Municipality of The Hague, and Fonds 1818.

Commemorating and Celebrating at Het Nationale Theater
Theatre is a place where many different people come together in one space. We share the same moment, and yet each of us experiences it differently. We may be people who would never otherwise meet in daily life, but here we are, interested in each other’s stories. In our auditoriums, we commemorate our shared past and celebrate the festivities that connect us. Join the conversation about power and powerlessness, recognize the human struggle, and share in one another’s joy.

Time and location of this event depends on which part(s) you choose to attend.
