Korzo presents: Embodied Freedoms

Embodied Freedoms brings freedom to life through dance films that invite dialogue, reflection, and the sharing of personal stories.

On the day we celebrate 80 years of freedom, Korzo presents a series of films that bring different embodiments of freedom to life. “Embodied Freedoms” is a project that explores the boundaries of freedom, identity, and movement through four short dance films.

In these films, various performers and choreographers answer the question: What does freedom mean to you?

Each creator brings a unique perspective. Ukrainian choreographer Vladyslav Detiuchenko and Iranian Roshanak Morrowatian were both forced to flee their homeland. Physical theater maker Esmée Begemann explores the traces that intergenerational trauma leaves on the body in much of her work. The final film was made by a group of young people participating in the Get Moving program at Korzo (Sedra van Ruijven, Yadhira De León Matos, Olin Bikker, Lilian Kafa), who created their answer to the main question under the guidance of choreographer Junady Leocaria.

Everyone's experience with (lack of) freedom results in beautiful videos that explore the fragile but valuable meaning of freedom and how it manifests itself in physical space.

The four dance films, each two minutes long and created by film and documentary maker Ciska Meister, form the core of the project and serve as conversation starters about personal freedom and freedom of movement.
