Ruby Joemai
Ruby Joemai is an interdisciplinary artist based in Rotterdam and The Hague and a member of the decolonial artistic collective CTRL+ALT+IDENTITY. Through film, fashion, theatre, dance, and graphic design, she explores her diaspora as a Surinamese-Hindustani and Indo-Caribbean woman in the Netherlands. Working under the name Kaam Kari La, her practice centers on decolonization, self-discovery, and community.
Ruby designs clothing for artists and activists, supporting them and amplifying their message. She also creates portraits to make their stories visible and contribute to the collective fight for social justice. Collaboration and mutual growth with fellow artists and activists are central to her work. Ruby’s practice is a search for identity and a future that includes all of us.
