Resistance!

  • Date: 19 June
  • Time: 20:15
  • Location: Theater De Regentes

A visual and musical performance about resistance by master storyteller Sahand Sahebdivani.

How far would you go to protect what you love?

"Hey, are you ready? Our democracy is in danger. They’re coming—for you and for me. This is the moment to rise up. How far are you willing to go? Shall we demonstrate? Strike? What can we do? What is justified? Everything? Nothing? We must act to protect what we hold dear."

In Resistance! Sahand Sahebdivani explores what it means to live with the stories of World War II, the Iranian Revolution, and ancient Persian myths of good and evil, while today’s headlines seem to catch up with those old war stories. Expect a mix of storytelling, spoken word, archival footage, and electrifying live music by jazz drummer and virtuoso Henning Luther.

Resistance! was developed in collaboration with Production House Mozaïek. This performance is the thematic sequel to Sahand’s previous show The Distant Word. Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1980, Sahand fled to the Netherlands with his family in 1983 during the Iran-Iraq War. His turbulent family history forms the foundation of much of his work. In addition to being a passionate storyteller, Sahand is also a musician. He has been telling stories for over 20 years.

"The Distant Word is a loving tribute to his father and a fascinating insight into the life of a communist revolutionary during the Iranian Revolution." – Theaterkrant

Immediately following the performance, there will be a post-show conversation with the audience about the connection between individual (or collective) resistance and the upcoming NATO summit.
